Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Lockheed Martin team in Havant, Hampshire as an Aviation Safety Manager. You will work with the whole business on our airborne platforms, Rotary, fixed wing and UAV. In addition, you will have opportunities to work on our wider, existing portfolio of programmes and future capabilities, which we want you to help shape. You will primarily be home based with occasional travel to the Havant offices and other LM offices such as Gloucester, Culdrose and Westminster. There will be occasional trips to other customer and supplier sites within the UK. This would really suit you If you have a background in safety management within the Aerospace industry, particularly in military aviation safety. You will experience a wide range of engineering activities including:

  • Developing and implementing an Aviation Safety Management System against RA1200.
  • Managing the Aviation Safety Management System.
  • Improvements to the Air Safety Management System and wider engineering practices to improve safety culture across the business. Managing and presenting to the MAA in various working groups and Audits.
  • Managing the occurrence reporting system.
  • Managing the investigation of safety issues raised and ensuring the implementation of the solutions.
  • Provide technical input to programme management and commercial staff and support where required in the use of LM and industry tools with respect to Air Safety.
  • Any additional Programme related tasks assigned that are within area of expertise, competence and skill set.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and suppliers across all levels of the organisation both internally and with the customer.

    Experience in Aviation Safety Management.
  • Experience implementing an Aviation Safety Management System.
  • Experience in complying to aviation regulations, i.e. DS 970, CS21, CS25, CS27, CS29 or similar.
  • Familiarity with Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Publications (MRP).
  • Experience of operating within an aviation authority approval scheme either:
  • + Experience of operating within one of the MAA approval schemes - Maintenance Approved Organisation Scheme (MAOS), Design Approved Organisation Scheme (DAOS), Air traffic management equipment Approved Organisation Scheme (AAOS), Contractor Flying Approved Organisation Scheme (CFAOS) Or
  • Alternatively experience of operating in a civil Pt 145 Maintenance Approved Organisations, Pt 21 J Design Approved Organisation, Pt 21G Production Approved Organisation or a Pt M Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO)
  • Familiarity with Air Safety Management System requirements.
  • Familiarity with approved organisations exposition requirements.
  • Background in Aviation.
  • Ability to lead organisational change.
  • Project management and project delivery experience.
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to write in a clear and concise manner, along with briefing upwards to SLT on relevant subjects.
  • Positive attitude, and willingness to get involved with tasks.
  • The ability to manage tasks and priorities to ensure that assigned workload is delivered when required.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences on sometimes complex issues, topics and engineering principles and practices.
  • Desired skills, qualifications and experience
  • Experience of working in military aviation.
  • Experience with an air safety management system to RA1200.
  • Held signature/airworthiness responsibility.
  • Degree in Engineering or other STEM subjects.
  • An understanding of the requirements of a Type Airworthiness Authority.
  • Previous Form 4 holder either CAA or MAA.
