Full Job Description

We are currently looking to recruit dynamic, enthusiastic and flexible dental equipment support workers who will join a multi-disciplinary team to assist in the decontamination process at the Birmingham Dental Hospital.
The post holders will work in close collaboration with the Decontamination and Equipment Manager, Equipment Team Leaders, Senior Dental Nurses, Dental Nurses, Dental Nurse Managers, Dental Matrons and Clinical Leads.
Interviews will be face to face at the Birmingham Dental Hospital., The main purpose of this post is to manage, organise and participate in the collection and distribution of sterile/non-sterile instruments between clinical departments and to provide a supporting role to the dental undergraduate students and nursing staff in the dispensary/clinical areas to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the departments, maintaining cross-infection prevention protocols, and Health and Safety procedures. Will provide stock/resources to the departments and oversee stock control of consumables., 1. Receiving, checking and returning deliveries of instruments; maintaining accurate records of issued and returned equipment as per decontamination provider policies and protocols using IT skills for scanning and defect reporting. Responsible for ensuring that all returned equipment is fit for purpose; identifying any that have been labelled as being defected or contaminated.
2. Store and distribute sterile medical/dental instruments and equipment to departments within Birmingham Dental Hospital, maintain stock control of materials and instruments. Replace non-clinical stock as and when required. Rotate sterile stock to minimise wastage
3. Participate in daily activities related to receiving instrument packs from departments, carefully checking the contents and reporting/replacing any deficiencies. Maintain sufficient supply of instruments to replace missing/damaged items. Report equipment/instruments for repair to team leader/ Equipment and Decontamination Manager.
4. Responsible for checking all trays and supplementary items, ensuring all local SOPs are being adhered to; e.g., ensure cement is removed from instruments fully prior to being returned for cleaning and sterilising by external decontamination provider.
5. Review Instrument Management Systems (IMS) on a regular basis to ensure stock levels are maintained, location of equipment is identified and turnaround times are monitored with external decontamination provider, and any discrepancies escalated as appropriate.
6. The post holder will be required to input data into a number of different IT systems in order to correctly record and track equipment through Birmingham Dental Hospital through an IM) for multiple providers.
7. Monitor general queries from students to ensure decontamination protocols are followed. Ensure correct disposal of used items following Universal Safety Precautions and Infection Prevention policies.
8. Working areas should be maintained to a very high standard at all times ensuring compliance with all Infection, Prevention and Control policies.
9. Assist with regular stock audits ensuring an accurate and up-to-date record of all equipment is maintained.
10. Participate in own appraisal.
11. To undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.
To minimise the Trusts environmental impact wherever possible, including recycling, switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use. Helping to reduce paper waste by minimising printing/copying and reducing water usage, reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly and minimising travel. Where the role includes the ordering and use of supplies or equipment the post holder will consider the environmental impact of purchases
