Full Job Description

After appropriate training the Health Care Assistant will assist qualified or student nurses in the delivery of patient care, this will include: Help with the feeding of patients where appropriate. Assist with bathing in bed and in the bathroom, with turning and moving of patients, including the use of mechanical aids and bed appliances. Assist patients with personal hygiene, including care of hair, teeth and nails under supervision, assist with oral hygiene of conscious patients. Assist in the care of pressure areas and the care of the incontinent patient. Participate in the rehabilitation of patients in hospital e.g., dressing, undressing, taking to the toilet and using commodes. Care of sanitary equipment, including decontamination of baths, bins and commodes after use and the decontamination of beds, lockers and other ward equipment according to hospital policy. Assist with keeping of routine records, e.g., weight charts and fluid balance charts., The focus of the role is to assist with:

  • Hygiene needs including bed baths, general baths, oral hygiene and facial shaves
  • Nutritional needs and completion of menu's
  • The patient achieving physical comfort and pressure relief by change of position and the use of comfort aids.
  • Accessing and using toilet facilities including bedpans and commodes.
  • Maintaining and improving mobility.
  • Rehabilitation needs
  • Dealing with dying patients

    We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, flexible and hardworking individuals with good organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors and colleagues. Experience in a care setting is preferable but not essential as full training and support will be provided by the experienced ward teams, Basic numeracy & literacy skills
  • Basic computer skills in order to access Trust policies

  • Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level II in Care or willing to undertake
  • Ability/willing to develop

  • Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
