Full Job Description

As Maintenance Assistant, you will be required to assist the maintenance craftspersons' in work that includes activities that are complex and/or non-routine. You will be required to undertake unsupervised routine maintenance and minor repair work that does not justify the attention of a craftsperson. You will also be required to assist in minor improvements and capital work across the Trust as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.

  • Undertake without supervision various minor repair jobs eg: air-conditioning, plant cleaning and filter changes, light bulb and pull cord replacement, removing locks for repair etc
  • Responsible for the regular Trust fire alarm tests. Recording failures to the Supervisor for repair
  • Erect under supervision, trestles and scaffolding
  • Under supervision repair lino, canvas sheet, domestic equipment such as mops and brooms
  • Assist building/engineering craftspersons in all aspects of their work including cutting timber, plumbing works, electrical and mechanical repairs and installations
  • Keeping plant and machinery clean, also workshops, plant rooms etc clean and tidy
  • Lifting and transporting plant, furniture, materials etc
  • Lay painters dust sheets, keep painters supplied with paint from store to job etc
  • Assist with the supply, unloading and relocation of stores and materials as required
  • Standby for safety purposes, i.e.: foot of ladders etc
  • To follow planned maintenance schedules
  • Uses all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for completion of works
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade
