Full Job Description

The post holder will demonstrate a high level of skill and understanding, enabling them to undertake specific tasks delegated by the Phlebotomy Manager or Phlebotomy Coordinator in line with relevant procedures, guidelines, and policies.

We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced phlebotomists to join our team at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and Washwood Heath Community Diagnostic Centre (WWHCDC), part of UHB NHS Foundation Trust. This skilled role requires the ability to work under pressure, proficiency with keyboards, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Applicants must have at least 12 months of recent phlebotomy experience in an acute hospital setting and will complete local training and competency assessments upon appointment. You must work well in a team without direct supervision, maintain confidentiality, and handle patients with sensitivity. Senior phlebotomists will assist in training, assessing, and supervising junior staff.

Core hours: 07:30--20:00, Monday to Friday, with weekend/bank holiday shifts:

  • Weekend Wards: 07:00--10:30
  • Weekend WWHCDC: 08:30--20:00
