The Cellular Pathology Department at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals is seeking a full-time HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join our team. This role involves working across the Histopathology, Cytopathology, and Andrology sections of the laboratory. We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to contribute to our busy yet supportive department, participating in all activities necessary to deliver an efficient and high-quality service., The Cellular Pathology department at Hemel Hempstead processes around 46,000 histology and 3,700 cytology samples a year, as well as running a busy Andrology service to the local population. The post holder will be expected to rotate through all sections of the histopathology department to include routine histology, specimen dissection and immunohistochemistry, as well as diagnostic cytopathology and Andrology. The post involves direct contact with Andrology patients therefore an ability to communicate effectively and compassionately is essential. The post also involves attendance at patient procedures, such as, Endoscopic Bronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) or Head & neck clinics both of which can be emotionally demanding. Key areas of work include:

  • Category A specimen dissection
  • Embedding and microtomy
  • Automated and manual staining
  • IQC
  • Immunohistochemistry
  • Diagnostic cytology preparation and staining.
  • Audit.
  • Additionally, the post holder will participate in andrology for fertility and post-vasectomy semen analysis.
