Full Job Description

As a staff nurse you will practice independently and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate person-centred nursing, that respects and maintains the patient's dignity and human rights. You will also be responsible for the assessment of needs of your patients and planning their programmes of care, without direct supervision. At times you will have the responsibility of overseeing the ward/department and supervising junior members of staff. You will always be required to practice in a holistic, non-judgmental, caring and compassionate manner that avoids assumptions, supports social inclusion and recognises and respects individual choice and acknowledges diversity. Additionally, you will work in partnership with other health and social care professionals, students and trainees and agencies, service users, their carers and families. A staff nurse will also contribute to the practice development within your clinical care settings.,

  • You will work according to the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and follow the relevant professional guidelines
  • You must always use up to date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care
  • You must achieve and maintain mandatory and statutory training, develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice
  • You must respond to patients, relative and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required
  • You will take charge of the practice setting as required/ or a defined area of the practice setting
  • You will take responsibility for undertaking tasks delegated by the nominated line/shift manager
  • You will contribute to the development of service and quality improvement to enhance the patient experience
  • You will delegate to and supervise the work of other staff registered and unregistered, students and trainees
