Full Job Description

You will work closely within our small team of dietitians providing evidence based nutritional care to our clients with learning disabilities.

You will manage your own varied caseload which includes nutritional support, dysphagia, enteral feeding, and weight management, with the support and guidance of senior clinicians. Clients are seen in a variety of settings within Birmingham.

Multidisciplinary working and a patient centred approach is integral to meeting the client's needs; the MDT includes nutrition nurses, speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Learning Disabilities Nurses. This post will allow you to establish and enjoy the close relationship built with clients and their carers over time, and to be a valued member of the multidisciplinary team.

An ability to travel throughout the Birmingham area to meet the demands of the post is essential.

This post is open only to applicants who are qualified, registered Dietitians who hold current registration with the Health Care Professions Council in the UK.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist clinical assessment and ongoing Dietetic management of adults with learning disabilities. Conditions include complex permanent disabilities, multiple pathologies, life limiting conditions and challenging behaviours.

Provide therapeutic dietetic care and health promotional /educational activities in a range of venues across the City including clinics, nursing homes, residential homes, clients' own homes, day service venues and respite/short.

Act as a source of specialist clinical advice and guidance for clients' families, carers and the multi-disciplinary team with support from senior dietitians.

Raise nutritional awareness/healthy lifestyles and promote the benefits of Nutrition and Dietetic Services with respect to people with a learning disability within the organisation.

Support the Band 6 Specialist Dietitian in developing and maintaining a high quality dedicated service that will provide person centred care in a variety of environments.

An opportunity has arisen for a newly qualified dietitian to join a team of dietitians working within the community learning disability service. Previous experience in learning disabilities is not essential as professional development and clinical supervision are given high priority.
