Full Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to take up the position of band 5 Occupational Therapist (OT) at Mary Seacole House on our male acute ward, Ward 1.
You will be based on Ward 1, working as a key member of that team where you will develop and deliver occupational therapy (OT) provision to a designated caseload. You will focus on occupational performance, complex mental health presentations, risk management and evaluating outcomes aligned to personalised care plans. You will implement and facilitate individual and group programmes of clinical intervention in collaboration with OT assistants, activity workers and other professionals for effective recovery and discharge.
Whilst you will be based with a specific ward team, as a member of the wider occupational therapy service there may be occasions when flexibility of location is required to accommodate clinical need. Post holders will be able to be flexible in their working, with both working hours and shift patterns being offered as part of your role. You will be working closely with the Senior Occupational Therapist, band 7 Occupational Therapist, Ward Manager, Occupational Therapy Lead Acute Lead, Matron, and the ward multidisciplinary team., Our Trust is committed to treating individuals fairly and ensuring they have the same opportunities to fulfil their potential, even if this means doing things differently for different people sometimes. Please note, if applicable for your role you will be required to cover the cost of your DBS certificate. This will be deducted from your salary over 3 months. You will also be required to sign up to the DBS Update Service before commencement with the Trust.
All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust's induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e-learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9-14 hours depending on post) by the end of your first week with us.

If applicable to your role, the Trust will require you to sign up for the DBS Update Service. The subscription will cost you £13 a year but the Trust will reimburse this. You will be contractually obliged to maintain your subscription.

The successful candidate will be able to communicate well and use their professional skills and knowledge to work effectively across the service, as well as displaying ability to work on their own initiative and be a committed team player.
You will be joining a hard-working multi-disciplinary team dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for service users and carers. You will be involved in a variety of professional roles to include supporting the day-to-day decision making on the ward, designated supervision responsibilities, leadership of various individual projects, quality initiatives and service developments that support the trust strategy. This position would be ideal for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with a vision to develop their career and clinical expertise within an acute mental health environment. The post would require the successful applicant to have experience within a mental health setting and have an awareness of risk management. You will be expected to utilise specialist functional assessments and interventions utilising the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) which is primarily used within the trust.
