Full Job Description

The post will provide diagnostic and therapeutic assessments of patients within a specialised physiology setting. Experience of routine lung function tests as well as specialised investigations such as sleep studies, multichannel studies, ventilation/CPAP trials would be advantageous. Main duties include:-

  • Collect and record quality control data to ensure that equipment is functioning to agreed standards and specifications.
  • Perform the full range of basic lung function tests on patients of all ages, to obtain good quality diagnostic information
  • Accurately record observations and produce technical reports on the range of tests performed.
  • Communicate complex instructions effectively to patients of all ages to ensure cooperation and compliance and to obtain accurate technical and clinical data.
  • Plan own workload throughout the working day
  • Ensure that all tests performed are according to relevant professional and departmental guidelines at all times.
  • Participate in teaching and training activities within the department for a range of staff.

    At UHB we are currently recruiting a fixed term Band 5 Respiratory Physiologists to work with us in the Lung Function & sleep department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, UHB. This is a busy department and therefore will suit a highly motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic individual. Our department has a long history of developing top quality and award-winning physiologists.
  • Applications are invited from qualified Healthcare Science Practitioners (Respiratory Science).Applications will also be considered from suitably experienced Band 4 Associate Respiratory Physiologists or those nearing completion of the Practitioner Training Programme or Level 6 Healthcare Science apprenticeship. Successful applicants will join a vibrant and industrious workforce. They will require excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working as part of a team but also be able to work autonomously with some degree of responsibility. The successful applicant would be expected to be proficient in a number of respiratory and sleep physiology investigations, with the ability to provide accurate and detailed reports for the clinical team., To apply you must have significant training and experience working in respiratory physiology and a desire to continue with personal development. Training and development are considered of paramount importance to all staff and attendance at professional and scientific meetings is encouraged. You must have excellent communication skills, be able to use your own initiative and be able to work as part of a team across the Trust.
