Full Job Description

We have the opportunity for a trained children's or learning disability nurse to join our special schools nursing team for Solihull. This post is for 18.75 hours per week term time only. Agenda for Change Payscale is applied and term time only pay is annualised. This is a great opportunity for personal and professional development, to extend knowledge and skills of working with children with complex physical and learning needs. You will work as part of the team to assess the health needs of school aged children and young people with additional health needs and learning disability; promoting healthy lifestyles through effective health education programmes and contributing to wider public health agenda in partnership with key agencies and professionals. You will learn how to complete specialist nursing assessments, plan care and implement interventions to promote the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families with complex health needs. We work as integral members of the
Multi-disciplinary Team maintaining responsibility for a named caseload of children and young people supporting their physical, emotional, well-being and safeguarding needs.

We support primary/secondary aged children & young people, assess the health needs of the school community and meet those needs through multi-agency working, provision of health promotion activities, staff training, liaison with parents/carers and referrals to appropriate agencies. Our staff formulate care plans in partnership with families and in liaison with members of the wider multidisciplinary team regarding medical conditions and emergency treatment. They promote public health principles in schools and the local community through effective partnership working, policy development and curriculum planning. Staff are expected to : participate in and support the provision of 'drop in' sessions within schools for children and parents; follow Trust and NMC guidance on confidentiality at all times; contribute to education review meetings; contribute to Education and Health Care
Plans and at all times promote inclusion for children with learning disabilities and complex needs. We encourage nursing students across all community areas and all staff should be able to confidently, competently and compassionately support students in this area.
