Full Job Description

As a Student Health Visitor with BCHCFT, you will undertake the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) (Health Visiting) Course in partnership with Birmingham City University (BNCU). Approximately 50% of the course is delivered in university and 50% in placement areas across the trust. The holidays will be fixed throughout the 52-week duration of the course. Throughout the course theory will be embedded into practice and as an NMC registrant you will be expected to further develop your communication, leadership, and reflective skills. In practice you will be supported by dedicated and innovative Health Visiting colleagues who are committed to supporting and developing Student Health Visitors and then welcoming newly qualified Health Visitors into the teams. You will be required to be a car driver.

    Successful completion of the course will lead to registration on Part 3 of the NMC register as a Health Visitor and eligibility to apply for a post within the integrated Health Visiting and Birmingham Forward Steps service which offers: o Access to clinical and safeguarding supervision o Access to a 12-month preceptorship programme o A continuous programme of in-house professional development o A workplace with a strong focus on staff wellbeing o Focus on developing clinical leadership skills o Future development opportunities for band 7 specialist HV roles e.g., safeguarding, homelessness, strengthening families etc. o Access to IT and technology solutions to support agile working Before commencing training, successful candidates will be asked to sign a BCHC Training Contract that will cover them for the duration of the course that will commit them to working within our Health Visiting service for a minimum period of 24 months post qualification. Applications are welcomed from all who meet the essential criteria including those currently working in clinical roles above Band 5. Please note that successful applicants who are able to evidence their current salary and appropriate experience (for non-NHS candidates) will be remunerated at their current salary pay point/in accordance with the Trust's Guidance on Starting Salaries up to the maximum pay point of Agenda for Change Band 6 for the duration of the Student Health Visiting course. Incremental dates will be unaffected.
