Full Job Description

Working as part of a virtual centralised triage team, alongside Band 6 Triage Support Officers and Principal Inspectors, the Band 5 Triage Officer will be involved in triaging RIDDOR reports for the purpose of establishing whether the incident circumstances should be referred to HSE's Investigation Division for investigation.,

  • Accessing relevant RIDDOR information, including from the RIDDOR database, if necessary.
  • Assessing the information contained in the RIDDOR report and making decisions about what further information and / or initial enquiries are necessary to support categorisation of the risk factors in the Risk Based Decision Model (RBDM)
  • Gathering relevant information about the duty holder, including HSE intervention history, if the duty holder is already known to HSE.
  • Communicating concisely and clearly with dutyholders - both verbally and in a written format to gather further information and / or initial enquiries to support the categorisation of the risk factors in the RBDM.
  • Applying regulatory judgement to evaluate the sufficiency and content of the information from the duty holder.
  • Applying regulatory judgement to the gathered information to identify, for consideration by the Principal Inspector, serious cases which may require immediate reporting to the Investigation Division - for example, serious ongoing risk, requirement for evidence preservation / management.
  • Applying the RBDM to the RIDDOR circumstances, recording the risk categorisation decisions accurately within the RIDDOR tracker.
  • Discussing risk categorisation decisions with the Principal Inspector, where decisions are difficult and/or require a higher degree of regulatory knowledge, particularly in relation to initial enquiry responses.
  • Retaining and recording all duty holder initial enquiry responses in the RIDDOR evidence management system - ensuring continuity of evidence for subsequent provision to investigation teams.
  • Creating and updating cases on HSE's case management systems for those incidents identified for investigation and allocation to investigation team leaders.
  • Accurately recording the activity details and time spent on potential cost recoverable regulatory functions.
