Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity is available to join the altered airways clinical nurse specialist (CNS) team on a fixed term 12 month secondment. The CNS acts as a key worker, providing an expert nursing service to patients with a tracheostomy or laryngectomy, alongside the multi-professional team. Candidates must have significant experience and a passion for supporting the altered airway population and delivering excellent patient care. They must demonstrate confidence within this field and be a team worker and motivated towards delivering high standards. They will be supported in decision making and improving knowledge and skills by working with the team leader. Candidates must have clinical skills such as competence for altered airway care. They must be confident to deliver teaching and support to patients and their families. They can expect to work in both inpatient and outpatient settings., Be a key worker for a patient group, including head and neck cancer and a range of specialities, attend multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to plan and action patient care including routine tracheostomy set changes

Work autonomously in managing a case load of patients including nurse led clinics

Support respiratory weans with eventual decannulation

Act as a specialist resource for knowledge and delivering teaching sessions to Trust staff
