Full Job Description

  • To work within a team of radiographic (CT) and clerical staff within the Trust
  • To provide a high standard of expertise and care
  • To ensure safe operation of CT equipment and maintain safety of patients, staff and visitors to the CT environment.
  • To undertake, unaided, all aspects of CT general and emergency imaging.
  • To coordinate and liaise with the relevant teams in order to perform GA scans unaided.
  • To undertake the core training of other CT radiographers in all CT studies.
  • To help facilitate learning for students and less experienced staff.
  • To ensure correct CT scanning protocols and policies have been implemented and adapted for patients.
  • To recognise pathology and adapt scanning techniques where necessary.
  • To ensure all images are available on PACS and assigned to the correct worklist.
  • Working for our organisation The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust's services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.   • To help maintain an efficient, effective, and high-quality CT service on a day-to-day basis.
  • To communicate complex and difficult information to patients; to gain their co-operation and understanding especially in stressful situations and ones where there are barriers to communication and specifically to give specialist advice on the services available to them and contact numbers they may require.
  • CLINICAL PRACTICE
  • Maintain highest standards of CT scanning techniques and image quality and advise staff as and when required.
  • To undertake all CT studies unaided.
  • To interpret scans and use clinical judgement and analysis in order to optimise imaging and provide the best patient experience and outcome.
  • To train the staff in all aspects of CT scanning techniques, including those scans of a more complex nature such as CT multiphase and angiography studies.
  • To review CT referrals using expert knowledge of pathologies and scanning techniques.
  • Maintain a high standard of patient care and safety.
  • Maintain strict ionising radiation safety standards for all patients, hospital staff and visitors.
  • Maintain a high standard of equipment care.
  • Report any problems/concerns to the CT Lead Radiographer.
  • Cannulating and administering of I.V. contrast media and Buscopan after recognised training in line with Trust Policy.
  • To report scanner issues and downtime directly to the manufacturer and CT Lead when required.
  • To liaise with both patients and referring teams about a patient's medical history and to assess safety to proceed with CT scanning.
  • To communicate effectively & efficiently with patients & colleagues to deliver a robust scanning service.
  • MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES/EQUIPMENT
  • Participate in all aspects of quality assurance programme within the department.
  • When notified of equipment faults/incidents these must be reported to the maintenance provider and the appropriate lead radiographer must be informed.
  • Replenishing of low levels of stock must be communicated to the appropriate lead radiographer.
  • PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
  • Be aware of clinical governance issues.
  • To report any incidents and making appropriate records.
  • To ensure that all Hospital Safety Policies, Procedures, and fire regulations are observed.
  • Carry out any other duties which may be delegated by the CT Lead Radiographer
  • EDUCATION
  • To be responsible for own personal and professional development which is planned and communicated with Superintendent radiographer.
  • Keep abreast of current trends by reading radiography journals and attending courses.
  • Assist more junior members of staff with CT technique and train CT radiographers in a wide variety of CT procedures.
  • Help in student training and mentoring.

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, hardworking, motivated patient focused Band 6 Bank radiographers to join our friendly CT team. This post would suit HCPC registered radiographers with previous CT experience who would relish an opportunity to develop their career in in this busy Acute NHS Trust. The CT Scanning Service offer a 24hrs / 7 day service to support emergency outpatient and inpatient services, including imaging for acute ED services, ITU, Theatres and all wards, as well as planned outpatient provision. We also provide a GP direct access service for specific outpatient examinations.
