Full Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Communications Specialist to support the Trust's Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) communications and engagement activities. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of RDI initiatives through innovative communications strategies across a variety of channels, both internally and externally. The successful applicant will lead on media relations for RDI projects, including responding to media enquiries and briefing stakeholders. The development and implementation of communication and engagement plans to support the Trust's RDI programmes will be key, therefore the successful applicant will need demonstrable experience in understanding and translating highly complex and scientific and medical information into accessible and engaging content for both internal and external audiences. Producing high-quality content for digital platforms, including social media, newsletters, and press releases is central to this role, as is the high level of support to public and stakeholder engagement activities, including events. Greater patient understanding and involvement in research is essential to our Trust's strategy to Build Healthier lives, therefore you will need to work in an extensively collaborative environment, across internal departments and with our external partners, to ensure effective communication and engagement.

  • Proven experience in communications within a complex organisation, ideally in the healthcare sector.
  • Knowledge of digital communications tools, social media management and content management systems.
  • Exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills with the ability to tailor communications to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of health policy and current themes in healthcare, particularly in research or health data.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
