Full Job Description

The Deputy Mortuary Manager is a key part of the Cellular Pathology management team and is responsible for delivering high quality, efficient mortuary services to the Trust across the four main hospital sites. Trust mortuaries are open 24 hours per day and seven days per week to receive and ensure the dignified care of deceased patients. The Deputy Mortuary Manager will help lead and manage the dedicated UHB mortuary team in delivering care in this important clinical area within Pathology. The core working hours are Monday- Friday between 7am and 4pm. The post holder is expected to participate in out of hours cover., The role requires efficient mortuary management and participation in routine and specialist mortuary procedures. Management of key documentation and audit trails is a daily requirement, together with updating policies, procedures, and managing mortuary assets. The role oversees the dignified reception, care and release of adult and baby deceased patients. Specialist technical skills and knowledge are a requirement for this post. For example, the successful candidate will advise, support and oversee with complex post-mortem examinations, with sympathetic reconstructions, remove medical devices and facilitate viewings of deceased patients. The post holder will ensure effective training, competency assessments and communications with the team and will link with other key professionals. This includes Medical Examiner's Office, Bereavement and End of Life specialists, HM Coroner, Funeral Directors and service engineers.
