UHB Neonatal Service: Where a passion and career come together!
Our established team are looking for Neonatal Nurses who have a Critical Care qualification to take on the role of Special Care Coordinator.
At UHB we provide Neonatal care to over 10,000 babies across the region. Heartlands, Level 3 unit has 12 Critical Care & 20 Special Care cots, a Transitional Care unit and Neonatal Community Outreach Team. Good Hope, Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit has 12 Special Care cots with the capacity to stabilise sick and preterm infants in preparation for transfer.
As a band 6 coordinator your focus will be on quality, ensuring babies and families receive a high standard of care. You will support your team members nurturing them to develop knowledge and skills to function confidently within their role. You need to be motivated and enthusiastic about care delivery and drive forward positive change.
You should be supportive, calm and possess exceptional communication skills. You must be a positive role model and lead by example ensuring adherence to trust and local policies. You must be able to coordinate and organise care provisions and lead the diverse multi-professional team on shift.
The post holder would not be allocated patients, but will be required to support clinical care when needed. You would be expected to maintain your knowledge and skills through exposure to critical care.
The post is based at Heartlands hospital. Shift patterns are 7.30-20.00, Coordinate care, capacity & flow across Special Care & Transitional Care collaborating with the nurse in charge of the Neonatal unit.
Ensure high quality care is delivered in line with policies & procedures. Maintain safe practice to protect vulnerable babies and families, adhering to Infection Control, Medicines Management and Infant Feeding standards
Demonstrate positive role modelling, provide support, teaching and provision of pastoral care to enable staff to develop and perform within their scope of practice. Deliver constructive feedback and work with Educators to promote the development of knowledge, skills and confidence.
Communicate effectively with all teams and multi-disciplinary members. Attend huddles and team meetings to understand patient case load, clinical issues and convey messages to the team
Utilise critical thinking skills to solve problems and escalate concerns appropriately in a timely manner to managers and senior leaders using the appropriate channels
Provide supervision during clinical ward round to ensure key information is transferred and required care is planned. Ensure discharge planning and safeguarding concerns are managed appropriately and in the best interests of the patient and family.
Implement family integrated care & developmental care. Communicating with families to ensure they are informed and involved, seek feedback to aid positive learning.
Develop self to enhance their professional knowledge, skills and leadership ability.
