Full Job Description

12 months secondment with potential to be extended into permanent role

The Intensive Community Rehabilitation Team are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic occupational therapist who is passionate about working with individuals living with complex mental health needs in the community. We are looking for compassionate, inclusive and committed individuals who can champion the recovery approach within the service. You will work as part of an experienced multi-disciplinary team to offer rehabilitation to people within their own homes and supported accommodations in line with their interests and goals. This work may include delivering interventions around skills for daily living, overcoming barriers to motivation and social engagement and accessing leisure and employment opportunities.

Occupational therapists in ICRT work within the framework of the Model of Human Occupation , however as part of the MDT you will use lots of different assessment tools including the Dialog+ and team formulations. As well as working together within a whole team approach, you will have support from the team manager, who is an occupational therapist, as well as the opportunity to meet regularly with occupational therapists in the Steps 2 Recovery units for peer support.

The team is unique, as NHS and Birmingham MIND work in collaboration to support service users in maximising their independence and working towards recovery.

  • Developing personalised programmes of care for service users alongside other team members, which include psychology, medical, pharmacy, nursing and Recovery Navigators. Ot staff are responsible for focusing on developing structured goal orientated interventions to address issues all areas of functioning and to increase independent living.

  • Carrying out specific OT assessments to support care planning and any discharge needs. This may include specialised assessments to support funding packages or specialised interventions

  • Liaison with OT staff in the Steps to Recovery Rehabilitation teams to ensure that any needs identified within the rehab teams are reviewed and service users are given opportunities to meet their specific goals for OT involvement.

  • Work with third sector partners and other voluntary groups to support transition into a range of community activities and to foster the development of robust support networks.
