Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Orthoptist to join our team at North Middlesex University Hospital. We have a friendly team of 5 Consultant Ophthalmologists, 2 Orthoptists and 2 Optometrists in an expanding department. The post is required to cover clinics across our sites. Our Ophthalmology department sub-specialities include Ocular Motility, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Glaucoma, Medical Retina and Oculoplastics, as well as FFAs, IVT and LVA. We are developing our links with the Stroke team and will be recuiting our first ECLO this year.

  • To provide an orthoptic service in the community and hospital setting
  • To use advanced clinical expertise, reasoning and experience to assess, diagnose and manage children and adult patients referred to the Orthoptic service as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including patients with additional needs and children with visual impairment.
  • To participate in clinical audit and research.
  • The post-holder will be required to work independently and make clinical decisions using independent judgement and initiative.
  • The post holder will be required to participate in our school vision screening programme
  • To assess, diagnose and treat children and adults with ocular motility problems.
  • To assess and manage children with visual impairment
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team, communicating effectively
  • To contribute to the running of community-based clinics
  • To conduct school screening
  • Contribute to audit, research and teaching
  • Administrative duties related to clinical work
