Full Job Description

We are looking for a Paediatric SLT to join our team in Solihull. It is a full time vacancy but we will consider applications for part time hours and those interested in completing their dysphagia competencies. We are a medium sized team of SLTs who work solo and jointly with other children's community services such as OT, Physio, Complex Needs and the Specialist Assessment Service (SAS - for autism diagnosis). We welcome applications from experienced band 5 SLT's and established band 6's who are looking to further develop specialist level skills.

UHB provides a Multi-professional Preceptorship Programme for all newly appointed clinicians. This includes additional support from the Trusts Professional Development and Education Team around career development.

As a band 6 SLT you will use secure clinical skills to assess, manage and discharge children between 0-18 years, within a shared pathway and caseload system. Clinical work is undertaken in educational settings, clinics, and family homes, as appropriate for individual children.

We support active participation in Clinical Excellence Networks meetings and are a research active trust with opportunities for supported study at Masters and PhD levels.

Main duties of the job

Assess, diagnose and manage communication, in appropriate locations, referring onto colleagues for dysphagia needs. Develop specialist knowledge within areas of clinical practice as service requirements dictate and as planned in annual appraisals.

Maintain accurate case notes and records in accordance with HCPC, RCSLT and organisational standards. Distributing written reports in a timely manner to clients, carers and other professionals, as required, including under relevant Education Acts., such EHCPs.

Liaise with other professionals, including those in Education and voluntary Sectors.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of speech and language therapy issues, assessments, treatment procedures and new technology through a variety of Continuing Professional Development activities (CPD).

Provide accessible advice and support to relatives and carers.

Organise own caseload and identify needs, bringing to the attention of the specialist or Team Leader, issues relating to clinical decision making or service development.

Support clients through communicative situations which cause them significant difficulties.

Cover for colleagues' absences, as directed by the Team Leader.

Carry out any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of the post at the request of the Clinical Leader.
