Full Job Description

· Provide physiotherapy input to the Regional Specialist FES Clinic, co-ordinating with other specialist services as appropriate e.g. Orthotics, Spasticity Clinic, MS Clinic and ITB Clinic.
· Assess patients for FES treatment, plan, deliver and coordinate an individual treatment plan using sound clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based practice.
· Supplying FES units, train patients and carers in their use, arrange and deliver follow-up reviews in line with Medical Devices Policy and clinical needs of patients.
· Support patients, carers, HCP with holistic management of neurological conditions for optimal rehabilitation potential.
Training in FES is desirable but not required as the successful candidate will receive full training in FES., · Provide comprehensive assessment of patients referred to the FES service, analysing information, goal setting with patients and co-ordinating FES treatment programmes with other specialist services as appropriate.
· Deliver appropriate specialist FES equipment for patient needs including training, maintenance of equipment and support for equipment for the FES pathway of care.
· Deliver a wide range of physiotherapy treatments including physiotherapeutic handling and positioning, exercise programmes, gait re-education, and electrotherapy.
· Coordinate client's rehabilitation programmes, in liaison with senior staff, to meet complex social, emotional and physical needs within an appropriate environment., · Professionally accountable for all aspects of own work practising in accordance with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy 'Rules of Professional Conduct' and the Health Professions Council 'Standards of Proficiency'.
· Adhere to all Trust and departmental policies and procedures.
· Develop and maintain skills and knowledge required to practice in the field, through participation in in-service training programmes and other Continuing Professional Development (CPD) documented in CPD portfolio., · Provide comprehensive assessment of patients referred to the FES service, analysing information, goal setting with patients and co-ordinating FES treatment programmes with other specialist services as appropriate.
· Deliver appropriate specialist FES equipment for patient needs including training, maintenance of equipment and support for equipment for the FES pathway of care.
· Deliver a wide range of physiotherapy treatments including physiotherapeutic handling and positioning, exercise programmes, gait re-education, and electrotherapy.
· Coordinate client's rehabilitation programmes, in liaison with senior staff, to meet complex social, emotional and physical needs within an appropriate environment.
· Negotiating with patients and carers to agree realistic goals. Deal sensitively with clients and carers / families coping with difficult diagnoses or with long term / degenerative conditions who may have unrealistic expectations.
· Ensure patients who may not be suitable for FES are signposted to other services if appropriate and to sensitively deal with disappointment if FES is not appropriate.
· Provide informative reports and discharge summaries to GP's, social services, outside agencies and other therapy staff within standards set by the services.
· Ensuring appropriate consent to assessment, treatment and imaging is obtained.
· Communicate complex user-related information effectively to the inter-disciplinary team, including colleagues, at local and regional level, in social care and health, education and acute services, to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated service.
· Keep accurate and contemporaneous clinical records in accordance with professional and departmental and trust standards including information relating to Medical Devices.
· Advising and teaching patients / carers and / or other referring clinicians regarding management techniques for their condition or exercise and treatment programmes. Information provision may include diagrams and digital photos of patients' exercises or use of equipment.
· Act as point of contact for ongoing advice to patients/carers and professionals at a local and regional level.
· Show sensitivity to the cultural and social diversity of service users, families and staff in all aspects of work.
· Undertake and advise on manual handling, clinical risk assessments and home visits. This will include moving and handling physically dependent patients following risk assessment to enable their clinical assessment and treatments to be completed safely.
· Perform home or hospital visits, when necessary. These may be alone or with other clinicians as appropriate.
· Assess for, order and provide equipment for individual patients and to ensure safe use of equipment such as wheelchairs, orthoses, walking aids and manual handling devices.
· Identify needs outside the scope of physiotherapy and refer on to other professions and agencies as necessary.
· Work with IDT to develop the use of outcome-measures, guidelines / protocols and care pathways. This may include development of proformas and written information for service users.
· Attend relevant referral and team meetings including Clinical Governance forums and service development meetings., · Professionally accountable for all aspects of own work practising in accordance with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy 'Rules of Professional Conduct' and the Health Professions Council 'Standards of Proficiency'.
· Adhere to all Trust and departmental policies and procedures.

· Undertake the measurement & evaluation of own work and current practices through the use and application of Evidence Based Practice including participation in clinical audit and research as required for the Regional specialist FES Service., · Work autonomously, plan, manage and prioritise own caseload in co-ordination with other IDT staff, outside agencies and service structure.
· Be responsible for the delegation of physiotherapy programmes to Rehabilitation / Physiotherapy Assistants, and other members of the IDT as required.
· Provide cover for colleagues as necessary.
· Assist with the re-allocation of the caseload in the absence of any member of the team.
· Contribute to professional and clinical team related meetings.
· Participate in highly specialised in-service training programme.
· Critically appraise evidence and analyse clinical guidelines/standards in order to develop / maintain evidence-based and clinically effective practice.
· Participate in service development in conjunction with senior staff and the wider IDT.
· Keep accurate, contemporaneous records in line with CSP, Trust and departmental policies and guidelines.
· Collect required statistical information, e.g. activity data.
· Ensure all planned leave (annual leave / study leave) and off site activity is accounted for.
· Supervise physiotherapy students, physiotherapy assistants and work experience students as required., · Co-operate and assist with Research projects in the service or physiotherapy profession as required.
· Undertake regular clinical supervision and identify own training needs.
· Disseminate new knowledge e.g. from external courses to other staff as agreed with manager.
· Develop and empower all members of your team to perform to high standards and innovate.
· Ensure supportive staff management arrangements are in place to carry out personal development reviews for direct reports. Ensure all staff in your team/s has an annual PDR's resulting in specific and effective personal development plans in line with the Knowledge and Skills Outline Framework.
· Develop staff knowledge and skills to promote equality and diversity and address inequalities both in employment and service delivery. Ensure specific equality objective are included in PDR's.
· Develop a culture that ensure that the standards of improving Working Lives and Investors in People are achieved and maintained for all staff and that staff's perception about their working lives are measured and improvements made.
· To undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.
· To minimise the Trust's environmental impact wherever possible, including recycling, switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use. Helping to reduce paper waste by minimising printing/copying and reducing water usage, reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly and minimising travel. Where the role includes the ordering and use of supplies or equipment the post holder will consider the environmental impact of purchases.
