Full Job Description

You will be expected to liaise with the Lead Resuscitation Trainer, to support the Clinical Activities Support Team (CAST) in their training capability and capacity to deliver resuscitation training not only in the classroom setting but across wards and departments covering a wide range of clinical areas and to all grades and disciplines of staff throughout East Lancashire Hopitals NHS Trusts. You will attend cardiac arrests and advise on all issues regarding Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation e.g. following critical incidents/near misses, maintain emergency devices and equipment, audit, measure and implement new initiatives/change, in order to maintain and continually improve the quality of service to patients., Applications are welcome from professionals with a recognised statutory healthcare qualification. You will have experience working in an acute or critical health care setting and have a keen interest in education and resuscitation practice. If you are keen to develop personally and professionally and want to be supported within a dynamic team we can offer an interesting, challenging development opportunity. The role will require attendance at all of our main hospital sites and community settings. You must be flexible, as although your normal working hours will be over a five day week Monday to Friday, you may be required to work during the evening and weekends on occasion as required. We welcome candidates that would like to be considered for a joint clinical / resucitation training post. However please ensure that you have approval from your line manager prior to applying. There is an expectation that successful applicant will complete further resuscitation courses and to undertake instructor training if not already an established instructor.,

  • Assist in the delivery of a Trust-wide resuscitation training programme
  • Develop and deliver resuscitation, including simulation, training (Adult & Paediatric) to all Trust staff and students in line with regional, national & European guidelines
  • Maintain systems to ensure resuscitation equipment is ready for use in conjunction with the heads of service and lead practitioners
  • Have an understanding of emotional intelligence and human factors and its impact within the health care setting: patients, clinicians, service providers and the wider team
  • Co-ordinate and deliver ILS, PILS and AIMs courses across the Trust
  • Assist with the collection of cardiac arrest/peri arrest data and enter onto appropriate electronic database
  • Assist with any audit projects conducted across the Trust in relation to resuscitation
  • Assist with investigating incident reported via DATIX providing specialist advice and any further action to be taken. Collate common themes in relation to cardiac arrest data to report into Deteriorating Patient Steering Group (DPSG) via quarterly report
  • Provide advice and support with regard to resuscitation to clinical areas throughout the Trust
  • Provide constructive feedback to learners on their performance during their practice and assessment during life support courses
  • Act as a member of the CAS Team and wider Directorate on Education, Research and Innovation (DERI) Team with attendance at relevant meetings as directed.
  • Maintain up to date training records / registers including inputting on to internal and external Learning Management Systems
  • Set up and maintain equipment for teaching sessions as required
  • Attend cardiac arrest calls throughout the Trust
  • Act as an expert resource throughout the Trust on resuscitation issues
  • Act as a role model, exploiting every opportunity to enhance the knowledge of others relating to clinical skills and to promote health and safety and risk assessment
  • Manage and prioritise own workload

    An opportunity has arisen to join an established and dynamic Resuscitation Team as a Band 6 Resuscitation Trainer. The successful candidate will be committed, dedicated, and self-motivated with excellent communication and organisational skills., Current recognised relevant Healthcare Registration
  • Educated to first degree level in a health related field or demonstrable experience
  • Excellent IT skills - ECDL or experience of using Microsoft Office applications and other hospital packages
  • Evidence of recent CPD
  • Recognised teaching qualification for example Post Graduate Certificate in Education /or evidence of working towards this /or equivalent experience
  • Current ALS or EPLS / APLS Provider must be willing to complete this within first 12 months of appointment
  • ILSi, PILSi, ALS or EPLS / APLS Instructor status or IP awaiting to undertake GIC - must be willing to complete this within first 12 months of appointment.
  • Desirable criteria
  • AIM Train the Trainer, Substantial post qualification experience in an acute setting
  • Experience of teaching/developing supervising and mentoring staff
  • Evidence of involvement in the delivery of resuscitation training to clinical staff within acute Hospital setting
  • Desirable criteria
  • Experience of holding a cardiac arrest bleep and or responding to an emergency situation
  • Experience in caring for Paediatric patients.
  • Experience with audit/research and data collection, Awareness of Current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines on Resuscitation.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise work using time management skills
  • Previous experience of planning projects
  • Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience as a resuscitation / clinical skills / simulation practitioner
  • Awareness of the recommendations for the requirements of resuscitation training within an acute Hospital Trust setting
  • Knowledge of quality improvement programme standards., Evidence of good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with other teams of staff
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, e.g. reports, information guides, IT, communication, e-mails
  • Ability to remain calm and work effectively in an emergency situation
  • Demonstrate compassionate leadership, Trust Values and behaviours and use excellent communication skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships with people from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds
  • Good time management skills
  • Organised and flexible, Access to a vehicle for work purposes to be able to travel to all Trust facilities and to attend meetings and events on a regular basis, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
