Full Job Description

We are looking for a radiographer or technologist with a special interest and experience in Nuclear Medicine or PET imaging. You will have worked or trained in Nuclear Medicine (and/or PET) and will be familiar with imaging protocols and radiation protection matters in this field. PET work in the department is growing and we already perform a wide range of studies using Gallium-68 and Fluorine-18 tracers including FDG, fluoride, PSMA and Dota-peptide. The department has a modern auto dose dispenser/injector and is well equipped with a Siemens mCT flow scanner. A new PET centre is in the final stages of planning and upon completion the team will move into a new modern, state of the art department with 2 digital systems based on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site. The department operates over extended days and works alternate Saturday shifts. There are opportunities for overtime working., The post-holder is a member of a multidisciplinary team that provides diagnostic procedures directly to patients. They have responsibility for performing a wide range of diagnostic PET/CT procedures on patients of all ages and who are suffering a wide range of illness, including cancer. They will be actively involved in the dispensing and administration of sterile radioactive materials; acquisition of imaging data, analysing and the disposal of radioactive waste material. As a senior member of staff they are required to work unsupervised and to also provide direct and indirect supervision to more junior staff. They will take an active role in the organisation of the routine daily workload of the department, liaising with other technologists, and medical, nursing and clerical staff. The post-holder works in a highly specialised area which requires consideration of the risks of radiation and cross infection together with the empathy and skill to help patients through difficult and
complex procedures.
