Full Job Description

In November, Solihull hospital welcomes the opening of three new theatres forming an Elective Surgical Hub with fantastic facilities. This is an exciting time for our progressive Pre-Op Assessment Unit as without our diligence, patients would not advance along their perioperative journey.

This is an autonomous role which will see you assess your own patients, take ownership of your own clinics and caseload. Act upon all investigations that you have ordered and decide to accept your patient for surgery or to defer them for further optimisation. As a nurse led service you will be required to complete a level 6 or 7 ECG interpretation course with the opportunity to attend leadership courses to develop yourself in your role.

As sister/charge nurse you will be expected to support the senior Sister, take charge of the department when allocated, manage sickness, mentor junior staff and be actively involved in their training and development. You will run the high-risk clinics, liaise with the MDT, develop audits, attend meetings in the absence of your Band 7 and chair your own within the team.

This is an exciting time for an experienced registered nurse to join our team and work closely with patients to help plan their peri-operative journey., The post holder will act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a consistent high standard of nursing/ Pre-Operative, the role generally involves leading the assessment and preparation of patients before they undergo surgery. This includes clinical, managerial, and leadership duties. The main responsibilities typically include:

Conducting thorough assessments of patients' physical, psychological, and social needs to ensure they are fit for surgery. Reviewing medical history, medications, allergies, and risk factors. Ordering necessary preoperative investigations such as blood tests, ECGs, and swabs. Providing clear information to patients about the surgery, anaesthesia, and post-operative care.

The post holder will regularly co-ordinate the department and take responsibility for ensuring the coordination and direct provision of high standard of holistic, patient centred care by assessing care, pre-operative care and health education needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for each patient.

This role also involves contributing to the overall improvement of patient pathways and ensuring smooth, safe, and timely transitions for patients from pre-operative assessment through to surgery.
