Full Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced nurse to join the Haematology Research team. The team is based at the Center for Clinical Haematology of the University Hospitals Birmingham which hosts one of the largest adult stem cell transplant programme in the UK. The team is responsible delivering a mixture of academic and industry sponsored clinical trials covering all areas of Hematological diseases. The team has successfully delivered a variety of trials including trials involving groundbreaking novel therapies.

The research nurse will be responsible for leading on the delivery of clinical trials and research projects in collaboration with patients, the MDT and sponsors. The post holder will ensure patients experience the highest care standard in line with NHS values and ethical pillars.

This role affords a broad, challenging and rewarding opportunity. It is an ideal environment for the post holder to maximize improving the quality of care patients receive through research. The post holder will facilitate an opportunity for patients to involve in research by being a link between research and patients experiencing new therapies., 1. Gain consent of participants prior to carrying out clinical or research-related procedures and treatments as agreed within the trial protocol.

2. Actively involve and take a lead in driving patient participation to research projects.

3. Take a lead role in coordinating patient journey while going through screening, enrolment, IMP administration and monitoring.

4. Use professional judgement to intercede and act as patient advocate to clarify plans of care and treatment.

5. Support the Delivery Team Lead to ensure that any changes in practice are communicated, actively monitored and sustained.

6. Work flexibly, and adapt to the changing workload and clinical case mix in the research environment to meet the needs of participants within RD&I.

7. Contribute to the drawing up and monitoring of action plans to minimise and manage risks. Lead/ support reflective learning from practice, undertaking root cause analysis / clinical and workforce investigations as required. Ensure and undertake the systematic process management of incident reporting forms.

8. Ensure effective and efficient patient's journey by supervising the planning and co-ordination of the admissions / discharges, outpatient review of the episode of care including the smooth transition to other settings, promoting safe, timely and effective discharge and optimising communication with multi-professional and interagency teams as required where appropriate.

To be successful in this role you will need to be a level 1 RN, with considerable experience in an acute care setting. Previous research experience is desirable.
