We are looking for Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialists to join our Acute Oncology team. This post will be based across all four of the sites of University Hospitals Birmingham.

We have an exceptionally experienced Haematology and Oncology Team, spanning all malignancies and offering some of the most pioneering treatments that are available internationally. This includes new Cellular Therapies, Immunotherapy, and Radiotherapy to name but a few.

You will be an experienced Registered Nurse who has relevant and recent experience in oncology and/or haematology.

To be short listed you must ensure your supporting information demonstrates how you fit the essential person specification criteria with specific reference to experience and knowledge., You will work throughout the trust, assessing patients wherever they are being managed, including the Emergency Departments and Medical Assessment Units. You will need to possess the skills and confidence to urgently review acute oncology patients and ensure appropriate pathways of care are actioned.

You will be involved in Telephone Triage and assessment of patients calling with complications related to their Anti- cancer treatment. You will be responsible for providing advice to patients in order to manage symptoms or if necessary organising assessment or admission to the most appropriate place of care.

You will be partake in the running of nurse led HOT Clinics providing assessment for patients with complications of treatment. You will possess a range of clinical skills and be able to undertake initial assessments. You will be able to deal with a wide range of presenting complaints, but also recognise and escalate more serious complications.

The Acute Oncology team supports patients and provides guidance, rationale and teaching to both medical and nursing teams throughout the acute hospitals. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience relating to oncological and haematological malignancy and you will be required to demonstrate the ability to prioritize workloads, use your own initiative and manage a caseload of patients autonomously.
