Full Job Description
The post holder will take a leading role in providing and developing the service to critical care and to tracheostomy patients on other wards. They will be involved in service development across acute wards, with a particular emphasis on critical care. They will participate in videofluoroscopy clinics for in- and outpatients. The role includes supervision of band 6 staff and support to the band 6 in supervising the band 5, as well as supporting the band 8 in day to day management of the team and service. Cross-cover of the various specialist areas may be necessary as staffing capacity requires.
The post holder will receive regular supervision and will be supported to develop their skills in assessment, treatment and management of complex swallowing and communication disorders, as well as professional and leadership skills.
The post holder will work with our current team to implement a FEES service, training and developing the team and setting up the service.
· To independently manage a caseload of adults with complex swallowing and communication disorders, across the acute wards.
· To lead on the implementation of the FEES service and train existing staff in this.
· To participate in the videofluoroscopy clinic at NUH, acting as lead clinician if the clinical lead is absent
· To supervise junior SLT's and students and contribute to the supportive ethos within the team
· To deliver competency based training to junior SLT's in the areas of advanced dysphagia and communication e.g. tracheostomy, videofluoroscopy, FEES.
· To be actively involved in service development for the NUH service in the acute and rehabilitation pathways and to contribute to the ongoing development of specialist clinical pathways
· To work clinically along the pathways using specialist knowledge to promote and develop the service
· To work flexibly in line with the needs of the service
