Full Job Description

Due to new funding, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist, with a specialist interest in dysphagia to join the inpatient team at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS trust. The post holder will take a lead developing the inpatient dysphagia service and providing expert opinion in complex cases across a broad population. The post holder will provide expert assessment and management of a broad caseload including complex older adults, end of life, dementia, frailty , stroke and acquired brain injury. In addition to clinical work, the role will involve developing our newly established FEES service and supporting with education and dysphagia competencies for less experienced staff., To provide highly skilled assessment and treatment to a complex swallowing caseload as part of a multidisciplinary team in an in-patient setting. To deliver a high quality, seven-day service for people with complex swallowing difficulties by adherence to clinical governance and evidence based practice. This highly specialist position will have responsibility for embedding and developing a FEES service delivering instrumental dysphagia assessment for adults in Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust inpatient beds. To provide assessment, intervention and expert opinion for patients with clinically complex swallowing presentations including those with long term enteral feeding, end of life care, ethical feeding decisions and tracheostomy. To take a lead role in training the Speech and Language Therapy workforce to achieve competencies in Dysphagia, FEES and Tracheostomy management.,
