Full Job Description

Managing and leading a nurse led catheter clinic for patients who have long term urethral/suprapubic urinary catheters requiring planned re-catheterisation.

This service is designed for patients who are non-housebound who require planned catheter changes residing in Barking and Dagenham, Havering, or Redbridge.

There is also a telephone adviceline for patients who have an urgent problem with their catheter i.e., blocked or bypassing catheter, outside of planned clinic sessions. Hours of operation Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

You will be expected to run clinics in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge

Main duties of the job

1. To lead on nurse led service in line with identified protocols and clinical guidance.

2. To arrange patient, follow up appointments, respond to all general enquiries, provide education as required and make new patient appointments.

3. To work independently with a caseload of patients, ensuring all patients receive a comprehensive assessment, relevant targeted education and planned regular follow up appointments as per individual care plan.

4. Ensure that evidence based, high quality, safe, appropriate, and effective clinical care is provided to all service users. Supervision of nurses within the clinic environment.

5. To oversee the booking of transport as per patient requirements.

6. Responsibility to ensure that the catheter service has adequate supplies to function.

9. To function as a positive role model and resource for all staff disseminating clinical skills and knowledge.

10. The post holder will consistently deliver a "client-focused" service which promotes good customer service and effective working relationships.

11. To provide onward referral to other community/hospital services including health and social care to ensure the safe management of the patient.

12. To establish and maintain links with hospital urology consultant and urology nurse specialist,.

13. Establish and maintain effective communication and relationships across all disciplines and services.

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735.
