Full Job Description

This post is a key role within the organisation to provide operational management and leadership to the Virtual Hospital within West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospital and Southwest Care Health Partnership. The VH manages respiratory, cardiac and frailty, surgical and have recently extended another pathway for General Medicine.
Virtual Hospital sits within the care partnership, this role will work in collaboration between West Herts and Central London Community Hospital Trust. It is an exciting service to be a part of as it has continually grown since its inception in 2021.
Virtual wards provide an admission avoidance and an early supported discharge pathway. It is a key focus of the ICB to have a functioning VH which ensures smooth patient flow in the acute trust, as well as providing good patient experience and quality care in the community., Oversee the day-to-day business management of the Virtual Hospital for all specialities and divisions across the Trust.
Work closely with the Clinical Lead and Delivery Lead for Virtual Hospital to manage the performance and output of the virtual wards.
Work alongside the Clinical Directors and the Deputy Head of Nursing to support the Virtual hospital services and clinical pathways within the Division.
Assist the Divisional Manager in developing the Division's strategic and operational agenda.
Contribute towards the overall achievement of the Trust's and national strategy, targets and operational objectives.
Work with the Clinical Leads and Divisional team to align with Trust, HCP, ICB and Divisional strategies.
Work alongside system and community partners to ensure good working relationships and delivery of effective pathways.
Responsibility for staffing, recruitment, and retention of the service. Responsible for the Virtual Hospital budgets., This role is Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm with flexibility to start/finish later.
The purpose of this post is to act as the operational manager for the Virtual Wards. Whilst this role is primarily within West Herts and based at Watford General Hospital, it may require flexibility and cross-site working to liaise with community partners at their sites from time to time.
It also means good communication with our community colleagues and a flexible proactive approach to resolving issues faced on any of the pathways.
The role of an operational manager is to have a "can-do" attitude to work through an array of operational issues, alongside the clinical and admin teams to optimise use of the virtual wards and support performance.
There is frequent communication with various ICB colleagues as well as a variety of people from different directorates and roles.

The post holder must be proactive, innovative, have good communication skills, good knowledge of managing change and have very good organisational skills.

With a new hospital planned for Watford and work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital, this is an exciting time to join us.
