Full Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and clinically experienced Upper Limb Clinical Specialist (OT/PT) to join our expanding and supportive team. You will join other Upper Limb Clinical Specialists to assist in the delivery of a high-quality service. You will be responsible for the general management of the team and service, whilst assisting with service expansion via development of new care pathways / business cases. In addition, you will be responsible for managing a complex caseload of Upper Limb patients.

This post will be based within our large therapy rehabilitation department where there is a vibrant and supportive team. There will be the opportunity to work within daily multidisciplinary hand / nerve clinics alongside Consultant Surgeons.,

  • To work with the current clinical specialists (PT/OT) within the Upper Limb department in providing upper limb therapy assessment and treatment for patients following trauma and elective surgery as well as other conditions within this speciality. This will include Upper limb therapy outpatients, inpatients and associated specialist clinics and take clinical responsibility for the assessment and management decisions for patients who are referred from the Consultant.


  • To assist the Upper Limb clinical specialists in the management of the Upper Limb therapy team / service including service planning / reviewing and auditing.


  • To be responsible for ensuring clinical effectiveness across the Upper limb therapy clinical speciality by utilising evaluation and research skills.


  • To provide strong clinical leadership in the provision of an effective, high quality, Upper limb therapy Service for patients.


  • To lead and support audit and research projects in order to evaluate service delivery.


  • To be responsible for the education, training and development of upper limb therapy staff across the OPD section in particular and the whole service in general.


  • To regularly review clinical practice delivery in light of new models of care and clinical transformation programmes within UHBFT, and to identify new ways of working, this includes the advancement of extended clinical skills of self and others.

    You should have experience in assessing and treating a variety of upper limb conditions, including some / all of:


  • -Hand trauma, rehabilitation and splinting skills

    -Brachial plexus injuries

    -Peripheral nerve conditions

    -Complex shoulder rehabilitation

    You must be keen to develop your clinical skills further whilst developing greater responsibilities in caseload, time management, leadership, service development and research.
