Full Job Description
This is an exciting secondment opportunity to be the Lead Nurse for HIV outpatients and day care at the Royal Free London.
The post holder will provide clinical expertise, management and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within their area of responsibility, ensuring that nursing care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively.
The Lead Nurse will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team and across different levels of the organisation with a high level of autonomy & self-motivation, to facilitate and support, inspire, design and/or lead projects.
The post holder will be accountable for leading on all aspects of quality management related to nursing practice within HIV care. They will provide a visible presence with strong professional, clinical, and managerial leadership to develop nursing at a strategic and operational level.
The post holder will provide specialist knowledge, support, and advice on HIV to patients, carers, and across the HIV Service as a whole. Whilst being an independent autonomous practitioner and independent prescriber.
The Lead nurse will work with the clinical team to create and enable a positive patient experience and promote staff wellbeing within the service.
As a nursing leader, the post holder will work closely with service users, clinical, operational, information and administrative teams across all levels, to deliver high quality care in conjunction with speciality, divisional and trust objectives. They will be responsible for nursing leadership, inspiring and developing the Clinical Nurse Specialist workforce and foster and develop strong collaborative working relationships internally and externally.
External collaboration with colleagues across the North Central London sector and other networks, national professional groups and patient charities is a vital component to the role.
The HIV service provided by the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is recognised as an international Centre of Excellence for HIV care.
It serves the inpatient and outpatient needs of over 3000 people living with HIV and has the largest cohort of women living with HIV in the country.
We have an inpatient HIV unit and run specialist consultant-led clinics within the department including viral hepatitis, TB, cardiology, renal disease, rheumatology, ageing and frailty, lipid disorders, AIN, gynaecology and psychiatry.
For stable patients on medication annual health reviews are in place, which are predominantly nurse led.
Care in all areas of medicine is increasingly being provided at a network level and the department is active in developing and strengthening links with our clinical colleagues across the North Central London Network.
The HIV department has a dedicated research team and many patients are involved in Clinical Trials including those for new antivirals, primary HIV infection, clinical and social science based studies.
