Full Job Description
This post provides clinical leadership and operational management of the admission avoidance physiotherapy and occupational therapy team who work in the ED, AMU and short stay medical ward. The post holder is responsible for the line management of the multidisciplinary team. The post holder undertakes independent patient assessment, acute rehabilitation and discharge planning, providing a high standard therapy service to inpatients within St George's University Hospitals Foundation Trust. The post holder works closely with the wider MDT and community partners strengthening discharge pathways from the acute to the community ensuring a smooth transition from hospital to home., The STAR Team lead will carry their own caseload of complex patients within the ED and AMU.
The post holder will assess and treat their own workload of patients and maintain associated patient records utilising knowledge and skills gained through attainment of competencies, experience and relevant qualifications.
They are required to carry out clinical tasks (such as instruction / supervision and prescription of individual and group exercise programmes), requiring a wide range of technical ability as well as an excellent level of interpersonal skills.
The post holder provides clinical leadership of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy team to facilitate safe and effective acute therapy assessment, provide early rehabilitation, educate and encourage patients to maximise their rehabilitation potential and facilitate safe and timely discharge from hospital.
The post holder supervises 4 x band 7 therapists. The role offers the opportunity to supervise, initiate and participate in evidence-based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and quality improvement.
The post holder contributes to 7 day working across the Trust supporting timely and safe discharge from the ED and AMU.

The hospital also provides all the usual care you would expect from a local NHS district general hospital.
