Full Job Description

Are you a compassionate and committed psychologist who champions inclusivity and making healthcare more psychologically-informed? Would you like to join our service to improve the mental health and wellbeing and help facilitate coping and adjustment to the impact of haematological disorders and associated treatments?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Practitioner Psychologist to set up, lead and provide our newly funded Infected Blood Psychology Service (IBPS), working into the Centre for Clinical Haematology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust.
This service has been initiated following the Infected Blood Inquiry report's recommendation to provide a bespoke psychological support service in England for those infected and affected by the contaminated blood products. The applicant will ideally have some experience working with blood borne conditions but our principal aim is recruit a psychologist with ability to develop a gold-standard service for patients and relatives in a holistic way given the uniqueness of issues related to the contaminated blood scandal.
There will be other psychologists working into this area nationally and there will be further opportunity to collaborate with colleagues who will also be engaging with developments. You will also be a valued colleague in our Clinical Health Psychology Service workforce at BSMHFT., Our Trust is committed to treating individuals fairly and ensuring they have the same opportunities to fulfil their potential, even if this means doing things differently for different people sometimes. We are working hard to ensure our workforce reflects the diversity within Birmingham and Solihull and that our services meet the needs of all diverse service users and carers.
The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As part of our safe recruitment practice pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. As part of the selection process you may be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, however all cases of criminal record history are dealt with on a case by case basis.
Please note, if applicable for your role you will be required to cover the cost of your DBS certificate. This will be deducted from your salary over 3 months. You will also be required to sign up to the DBS Update Service before commencement with the Trust.
All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust's induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e-learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9-14 hours depending on post) by the end of your first week with us.
If you are successful at the shortlisting stage of the recruitment process we may contact you via email to advise you of the interview details. Please ensure you access your email account from which you applied regularly once the position has closed.
If applicable to your role, the Trust will require you to sign up for the DBS Update Service. The subscription will cost you £13 a year but the Trust will reimburse this. You will be contractually obliged to maintain your subscription.

Relocation expenses may be reimbursed subject to eligibility. The policy provides for reimbursement up to £8,000.

If you thrive on challenge, creativity and a dynamic and supportive work environment, in which psychological thinking is highly valued in the wider multi-disciplinary teams, along with the opportunity to shape the future of the service, this is the job for you.
You will need to be able to demonstrate a highly developed understanding of the psychological impact of haematological conditions and how pre-existing vulnerabilities may impact upon the impact of such physical health difficulties, as well as being able to adapt your psychological interventions accordingly. With patients often being under the care of haematology services for life, specific consideration will need to be given to how to tailor psychology input accordingly, along with the ability to work flexibly across outpatient and inpatient settings.
You will have experience in working with patients with physical health conditions. You will be working closely with doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to provide high quality care, and you will need strong skills in consultation, supervision and teaching as part of our multidisciplinary teamwork.
This role will require face-to-face work, as well as skills in being able to deliver psychological assessment, interventions and teaching in a variety of formats, including via the telephone and video link.
Part-time and/or job share applicants would be considered.
