Full Job Description

To work at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a bank band 7 radiographer. To help maintain an efficient, effective, and high-quality MRI service on a day-to-day basis. To communicate complex and difficult information to patients; to gain their co-operation and understanding especially in stressful situations and ones where there are barriers to communication and specifically to give specialist advice on the services available to them and contact numbers they may require. To work within a team of radiographic (MRI) and clerical staff within the Trust To ensure that all Hospital Safety Policies, Procedures and fire regulations are observed.
Carry out any other duties which may be delegated by the MRI Lead Radiographer

  • To provide a high standard of expertise and care

  • To ensure safe operation of MRI equipment and maintain safety of patients,staff and visitors to the MRI environment.

  • To undertake, unaided, all aspects of cardiac MRI imaging, in addition to all other highly specialist scans.

  • To coordinate and liaise with the relevant teams in order to perform GA scans unaided.

  • To undertake the core training of other MRI radiographers in all MRI studies.

  • To help facilitate learning for students and less experienced staff.

  • To ensure correct MRI scanning protocols and policies have been implemented and adapted for patients.

  • To recognise pathology and adapt scanning techniques where necessary.

  • To ensure all images are available on PACS and assigned to the correct worklist.


  • The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust's services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

  • Maintain highest standards of MRI scanning techniques and image quality and advise staff as and when required.

  • To undertake all MRI studies unaided.

  • To interpret scans and use clinical judegment and analysis in order to optimise imaging and provide the best patient experience and outcome.

  • To train the staff in all aspects of MRI scanning techniques, including those scans of a more complex nature such as dynamic studies.

  • To review MRI referrals using expert knowledge of pathologies and scanning techniques.

  • Maintain a high standard of patient care and safety

  • Maintain strict MRI safety standards for all patients,hospital staff and visitors

  • Maintain a high standard of equipment care.

  • Report any problems/concerns to the MRI Supt. Radiographer.

  • Cannulating and administering of I.V. contrast media and Buscopan after recognised training.

  • To report scanner issues and downtime directly to the manufacturer and MRI Lead when required.

  • To coordinate and liaise with the admin support staff and Consultant Anaethestists to efficiently plan, book and perform General Anaesthetic lists unaided.

  • To liaise with both patients and referring teams about a patients medical history and to assess safety to proceed with MRI scanning.

  • To communicate effectively & efficiently with patients & colleagues to deliver a robust scanning service.

  • To cannulate all adult patients in line with Trust policy.
