Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Vaccination Nurse within the trust wide Clinical Skills Team within Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic individuals who will be responsible for the delivery and optimisation of the national vaccination adult programme. This role will require high level organisational and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Will support vaccination programmes including the planning, delivery and optimisation of the national scheduled adult recommended vaccination programmes.
  • Will work and deliver vaccinations in a variety of settings across the Trust including inpatient units, clinics and community venues.
  • Will assist and contribute towards the development of the Trust vaccination strategy and implementation plan.
  • Will assist in the training of staff across the Trust and provide advice on vaccinations relating to their hard to reach, high risk and vulnerable underserved client groups.
  • Will assist with the delivery of identified training as part of the Trust Clinical Skills Team.
  • Will be responsible to the V&I Co-ordinator and will work under the leadership and management of the Quality Matron.

Flexible working requests will be considered forall roles. Principal Responsibilities: 1. Will receive supervision and guidance around clinical activity from the Vaccination Team Co-ordinator. 2. Will be responsible for undertaking comprehensive vaccination to include:
  • Health & Social Care staff seasonal vaccination programmes.
  • Mass vaccination in outbreak/pandemic situation.
  • Expansion of the public health agenda, i.e. introduction of new vaccines, associated health promotion campaigns.
  • Vaccinations for new starters to the Trust.
  • Also assist with the delivery if identified training as part of the Trust Clinical Skills Team.
  • 1. Will individually assess clients prior to vaccination. This may require analysis of whether to defer or refer on, including review of current health status, clinical condition, current medication and reference to national policy. 2. Must have undertaken vaccine related training. 3. Must have undertaken appropriate training for working under PGDs for supply/ administration of 4. Ensure they are up to date with relevant issues and clinical skills relating to immunisation and management of anaphylaxis, with evidence of appropriate Continued Professional Development (CPD). 5. Administer prescribed vaccines as authorised to Trust inpatients. 6. Maintain clinical standards ensuring hand hygiene is performed before and after every client contact, that vaccination takes place in safe environment equipment/emergency drugs are in date and accessible, reporting any concerns to the Vaccine Centre Co-ordinator. 7. Co-ordinate delivery of vaccines and equipment to trust sites from the Medicines Management Distribution 8. Adhere to policy and practice to ensure safe storage, handling preparation and administration of vaccines and 9. Be accountable for ensuring cold chain maintenance during the transport of vaccines and for any fridges or cold chain porters used for 10. Act as a resource increasing the pool of knowledge around 11. Contribute towards a reduction of clinical risk, preventing significant events, acting upon them and the associated cost implications of dealing with errors, e.g. setting up recall clinics. 12. Work collaboratively with the Vaccination Team and Co-ordinator, Information Team, Matrons and Ward Managers, Divisional Lead Nurses ensuring that vaccination is available to those eligible across the Trust. Communication/Relationship Requirements 1. Work as part of a skill - mix team actively promoting vaccination 2. Act as an advocate for adults encouraging them to make an informed choices about vaccination using negotiation, motivation and reassurance skills to gain client 3. Effectively communicate with client groups and their carers giving complex information and guidance with reference to vaccination and be able to communicate when there are barriers to understanding such as instances where English is not the clients' first 4. Effectively liaise and communicate with other agencies involved with the client groups and their carers with reference to 5. Maintain close working relationships with provider services, clinical leads, public health, medicines management teams regarding overcoming barriers to improve the service through the efficient and timely sharing of information. 6. Identify and report in a timely manner on any key factors affecting access / uptake of Reporting and Recording: 1. Participate in the monitoring of the uptake of vaccination by ensuring timely and accurate contemporaneous recording and reporting of uptake. 2. Report vaccine or cold chain incidents immediately in adherence with trust policy. 3. Take immediate and effective action on vaccine hazards i.e. MHRA recalls of vaccine batches and suspected adverse reactions ensuring policy is Professional: 1. Be accountable to the head of service for own professional actions when dealing with clients. 2. Maintain a current NMC registration. 3. Be actively involved in professional development and maintain a professional profile. 4. Act always within the boundaries of the code and scope of professional 5. Maintain contemporaneous records as per policies and NMC 6. Be involved and committed to own and others clinical supervision and act as a reflective practitioner. 1. Maintain personal vaccination competencies by assisting in staff training and induction of new team members. 2. Act as a role model for those practitioners undertaking vaccination procedures. 1. Ensure own and others practice reflects current national and local policy and guidance supporting practitioners in the development of clinical skills in relation to vaccination. 2. Work with the Vaccine Team Co-Ordinator to outline and create a Personal Development Plan (PDP) with set measurable objectives based on performance development that supports team and service needs. Personal Development: 1. Assist the Vaccine Team Coordinator with the delivery of a rolling programme of Vaccination training in accordance with the vaccination & immunisation education strategy to update skills. 2. Participate in campaigns and local improvement strategies. 1. Act as a mentor when requested. 2. Support new staff in developing competencies. Service Development: 1. Assist in the targeting of vulnerable groups facilitating greater provision of choice in the range and flexibility of vaccination venues. 2. Assist in the implementation of agreed policies and protocols using evidence-based practice. 3. Work flexibly to meet expansion of service Clinical Governance and Quality: 1. Participate in supervision and to take responsibility for developing own learning. 2. Participate in preceptorship, mentorship and clinical supervision with the 3. Support the implementation of any initiatives to improve quality within the clinical governance framework and this will include Essence of Care and Standards for Better Health. Managerial and Leadership: 1. Organise and attend team meetings and other meetings as delegated by the team leader. 2. Submit reports/audits/data collection and returns as 3. Keep contemporaneous 4. Contribute to the development of audit within the Trust and undertake audit on a quarterly basis and or as necessary and specific to own work, i.e. vaccine cold chain/dridge, health equity. 3.
