Full Job Description

Mayfield School is a Special school which is based on three sites. The site in Torquay caters for pupils between the ages of 2-19 with severe and profound learning difficulties and the site in Brixham, known as the Chestnut Centre, caters for primary aged pupils who are educated outside mainstream education because of significant social, emotional and mental health difficulties with associated challenging behaviour. The Chestnut Centre also provides an outreach service to mainstream schools in Torbay. This post is for 3 days a week, term time only. 19.5 hours a week, and the salary advertised is the actual starting salary. The successful candidate will be an outstanding individual who is able to form positive relationships with children and adults and has a passion for improving the outcomes of young people. Good communication skills and the ability to respond calmly to challenging situations are essential. You will have a caring and child-centred approach with an ability to show empathy, perseverance, personal resilience, patience and an ability to work flexibly as part of a supportive team. An ability to coach staff and model good practice and strategies for managing challenging behaviour is essential and the understanding of trauma informed approaches and the PACE approach would be a distant advantage.
