Full Job Description

In this role the post holder will
· Assist in the day to day running of the maternity/gynaecology department bereavement services.
· Deliver high quality, evidence-based and family centred bereavement care.
· Work effectively as part of the immediate team and wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT)
· Have clear and effective communication skills.
· Act as a professional role model., · Delivering a high standard of evidence-based care to patients.
· To assist the midwifery/nursing team in providing an identifiable, accessible, confidential and professional bereavement service to support women with sensitive queries/concerns, providing information and advice.
· To act as a coordinating contact point enabling women to easily access bereavement follow on care and support.
· To actively engage with women to support them through their difficult experiences.
· Meet with bereaved relatives/carers and, in a sensitive manner, give advice and support as required.
· To advise relatives of help available to them, from, for instance, SANDS, counselling services etc.
· Ensure correct completion of paperwork by staff incorporated within the bereavement pathway.
· To provide support and debriefing to staff and women who are affected by bereavement.
· Involving and supporting patients, relatives, carers and friends in the care process.
· Promoting well-being and involving patients and relatives in health education.
· In conjunction with the matron and the senior midwifery bereavement specialist within the care group, to maintain clinical policies and protocols relevant to the area, ensuring that practice is evidence based.
· Freedom to act on a daily basis as this role is managed rather than supervised.
· There may also be a requirement to undertake other similar duties as part of this post in order to provide a quality service. These will be consistent with the level of responsibilities outlined above.
· Ensuring good standards of care for the patient are maintained at all times.
· Adhering to NMC Code of Professional conduct at all times.
· Ensuring clear and accurate written and verbal information is given at all times.
· Ensuring contemporaneous record keeping at all times.
· Seeking advice from more senior/experienced members of staff where appropriate.
· To work in accordance with the Trust Policies and Procedures.
