Full Job Description
The BI Quality Assurance Analyst's role is to assist in developing and establishing quality assurance standards and measures for the business intelligence & information technology services within the organisation. You will also gather and analyse data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and system requirements. This will include writing test plans and scripts for tracking defects and fixes in product development, software application development, information systems, and operational systems. The BI/QA Analyst will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate IT processes through careful testing to maximise the benefit of business investments in IT initiatives. They should be converse with working in an agile environment as part of a fluid and highly productive team and have specific experience of working with reporting tools, data cubes & warehouses. What does the role involve?
- Understand and analyse data processes within a business intelligence/management information environment and ascertain accuracy.
- Conduct internal audits to measure and assure adherence to established QA standards for software development, application integration, and information system performance, and corresponding documentation.
- Create and execute test plans and scripts that will determine optimal application performance according to specifications.
- Verify and revise quality assurance standards as needed.
- Ensure that testing activities allow applications to meet business requirements and systems goals, fulfil customer requirements, and identify existing or potential issues.
- Assist in designing, coordinating, and executing all IT testing including system, unit, regression, load, and acceptance testing.
- Make recommendations for improvement of applications, services, and infrastructure.
- Communicate test progress, test results, and other relevant information to stakeholders and management.
- Test any new data solution, software, service, or infrastructure to ensure integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and technical specifications.
- Analyse formal test results to discover and report any defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws.
- Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of quality assurance best practices. Strategy & Planning
- Develop and establish quality assurance measures and testing standards for data, new applications, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout their development/product lifecycles.
- Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in IT systems and projects across the organisation. Acquisition & Deployment
- Liaise with vendors and suppliers in assessing applications and/or systems under consideration for purchase.
- Analyse documentation and technical specifications of any new data solution, application under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality. Actively participate in scrum meetings/daily stand-ups and action tasks timely and effectively.
What technical skills are required for someone to be successful and enjoy the role? - Demonstrable experience in the design, development, and implementation of quality assurance standards for BI, software, services, and infrastructure testing.
- University degree (or equivalent) in software engineering, computer science or business administration and/or demonstrable equivalent work experience.
- Proven experience in business intelligence and quality assurance roles.
- Advanced proficiency in T-SQL and strong knowledge of system testing best practices and methodologies.
- Proven experience with core software applications, including Microsoft Office, Windows etc.
- Direct hands-on experience with ad hoc query programs, automated testing tools and reporting software.
- Experience with data warehousing and ETL testing processes.
- Proven data analysis, data verification and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in testing SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) reports.
- Experience in testing Power BI reports and dashboards, including proficiency in DAX.
- Proficiency in testing SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services) Tabular models.
- Understanding of data quality principles, data governance practices and data security measures.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies. Who would be a good fit for this role? As part of the Quality Assurance team, you would be expected to have the following skills and experience:
