SUMMARY: Serve as a biomedical equipment technician providing operations support at the Medical Equipment Repair Section., THE DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • The duties are to repair, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment used in the healthcare field with minimal supervision from service management.

  • Performance required duties may include the maintenance of documentation systems and reporting of information essential to facility medical equipment maintenance reporting systems.

  • Inspection and installation of medical equipment in medical facilities for use by physicians, nurses, scientists, or engineers involved in researching, monitoring, diagnosing and treating physical ailments or dysfunctions.

  • Performs maintenance, testing, repair, and operation duties, in accordance with (IAW) organizational and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) literature and guidance.

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled individual preventive maintenance procedures.

  • Inspects, tests troubleshoots, and/or repairs equipment for proper function.

  • Prepares required work orders to accompany equipment for repair.

  • Performs a variety of tasks in connection with work involving the setup and installation of assigned medical equipment throughout the organization.

  • Evaluates new pieces of electronic medical equipment.

  • As necessary, performs bench work on mechanical, electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and similar equipment.

  • Keep records of maintenance, repair, and required updates of equipment.

    Associates degree or higher, or equivalent (e.g., military training), as an electronics technician and/or Biomedical Equipment Technician.

  • Language Requirement. Personnel shall read, understand, speak and write English

  • Minimum of three (3) years hospital/healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance.

  • OFFICE SKILLS. Contractor staff shall possess working knowledge of computers, specifically the internet, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, and Windows Operating System.

  • You will be required to provide evidence of training, certifications, experience, and other qualifications for each biomedical engineering technician performing services under this contract. Evidence must include a list of types of equipment on which contracted personnel have experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance

  • Public Health clearance is required and the contractor shall submit immunization records and physical health certification with their proposal.

  • Certifications: A certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association (AMA), or the American Red Cross shall be obtained prior to the contract start date.

  • Work Environment/Physical Requirements. May be required to work in hazardous environments where typical possible hazards are electrical shock from high and low potential current sources, burns, gas fumes, radiation exposure, and biological contamination, as well as physical injury. There is an additional hazard of nosocomial infections while working in clinics, isolation areas, operating rooms, wards, or when working on potentially contaminated medical equipment.

  • Physical Requirements. The work performed primarily involves on-site work and standing, bending, and working in cramped and awkward positions. Incumbents must constantly follow safe work practices and procedures, particularly while lifting, carrying tools, maintaining equipment, etc. Incumbent works in all patient care areas in the medical treatment facility may be required to handle and/or ensure proper disposal of hazardous material(s). Requires use of protective/safety clothing/equipment. May be required to lift heavy objects weighing up to 60 pounds.


  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • A valid driver's license is required for this position in order to obtain authorization to drive Government motor vehicles to service medical equipment that may be located in other buildings.

  • Requires knowledge and technical understanding of and ability to interpret and relate federal, state, local, professional agencies' standards, regulatory requirements to biomedical equipment and its respective Environment of Care (EOC)

  • Certification by the American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) or as a Veterans Administration Biomedical Equipment Technician is desirable.
