Full Job Description

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic band 6 Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and dedicated Blood Sciences team at Charing Cross Hospital working in Clinical Biochemistry and Serology Department.

The department is a state of the art facility and one of the largest laboratories within the UK.All major analytical equipment will be state of the art analysers including Abbott Alinity HQ Haematology analysers, Stago StarMax2 Haemostasis analysers, Alifax ESR Technology, Abbott Alinity CI Chemistry, Immuno-Chemistry analysers and BioRad IH1000 Blood Grouping analyser. The department has moved onto a single multi-discipline automated track solution provided by Abbott, and will be fully integrated within a single department Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology & Haemostasis, Viral Serology and Immunology as a multi-discipline automated laboratory (MDAL).

The laboratory is covered 24 hours every day and the successful candidate would be expected to participate in the night worker rota which contributes to the continuity and quality of care for patients in the Trust hospitals. Staffs' are expected to travel across our six hospital sites when required.

The laboratory has IBMS training approval for training for Registration and Specialist Portfolios in Blood Sciences.

Main duties of the job

1. Contributes to providing a professional clinical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department.

2. Able to perform all core scientific and interpretive work, which corresponds to the training and qualifications of a Registered Healthcare Scientist.

3. Develop and improve your professional expertise.

4. More experienced Healthcare Scientists will be expected to supervise unqualified staff and deputise for section leaders when necessary.

5. Provides specialist clinical technical services to patients that may include research and audit.
