An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist/Clinical Scientist with good interpersonal skills and a committed team member to join the Immunophenotyping department. The Immunophenotyping Laboratory at the Centre for Molecular Pathology (CMP) in Sutton, provides an expert diagnostic service for both RMH clinicians and also for those from other NHS and private organisations.

The Immunophenotyping laboratory plays an integral role in the integrated RMH SIHMDS service and is one of the few specialised laboratories in the UK. The laboratory provides a flow cytometric based diagnosis and disease monitoring service for Haematological malignancies for several NHS Trusts and Cancer Networks, as well as participating in clinical trials. It also provides a CD34 enumeration service in support of the RMH Transplant unit, one of the busiest in the UK., The main objective of the post holder is to contribute to the provision of a timely and efficient immunophenotyping service for both internal and external referrals.

The post holder will be responsible for performing flow cytometry techniques using multicolour monoclonal antibody panels as directed by senior staff. They will be expected to use knowledge of flow cytometry instrumentation and the application of multicolour monoclonal antibody panels in the diagnosis of haematological malignancies. They will also perform CD34 enumeration and viability studies in support of the Stem Cell transplant programme. All responsibilities will be carried out in accordance with laboratory standard operating procedures for the efficient processing of requested laboratory tests.

In addition, the post holder will be required to participate in a rota for weekend/bank holiday out of hours service, once fully trained and competency assessed.

Experience of flow cytometry applied to Haematological malignancies diagnosis is desirable but full training will be given. This is a band 6 position, but a band 5 applicant that is willing to undergo training & competency to progress to a band 6, will be considered.
