Full Job Description

The post holder will act as a qualified Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology working within a section of the department and will rotate through all sections of the laboratory. The post holder will ensure that high quality patient results are produced in an efficient and cost-effective way in all sections in which they are working., The post holder will act as a qualified Specialist Biomedical Scientist in the Microbiology Department, working within a section of the laboratory and will rotate through all sections of the laboratory regularly, including Serology, Mycology, Parasitology and Molecular as well as bacteriology and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
The post holder will ensure that high quality patient results are produced in an efficient and cost-effective way in all sections in which they are
working.
They will also:
+ Process specialist investigations in the department of microbiology.
+ To provide specialist advice to clinicians and service users as to appropriateness of tests and timescales of results.
+ To provide specialist services such as training or problem solving for specialist equipment.
+ To act as a mentor for more junior scientific and support staff.
The laboratory has a number of automated and diagnostic systems, which includes, WASP, Vitek XL, Vitek MS Prime, BacTec, Panther, GeneXpert, BioFire TORCH, VIDAS3, Cobas, DS2 and Liaison.
The post holder will assist the Senior Biomedical Scientists/ Team Managers to ensure that a high quality Microbiology Service is provided.

Applications are invited from qualified, enthusiastic and well-motivated Biomedical Scientists, holding a BSc in Biomedical Science and currently registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to join our Northumbria Microbiology team in this UKAS and HCPC accredited laboratory.
The post will be based at the North Tyneside General Hospital but the post holder may be rotated to other sites within the Trust including Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, as part of the departments' shift system.
