Full Job Description
Community midwives work in local teams, providing an integrated service for women and their families in the area. As lead midwife at a local community clinic, you will work as part of a team to support women and babies before, during and after birth. Each team provides: o antenatal care and support with home birthing, for women and families within Camden, Islington, Barbican and Sohoo support for women within our birthing centre in the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson wing, next to University College Hospitalo post-natal care, in-clinic and via home/community visits. You will be on-call once or twice monthly for home births. A shift pattern including night and weekend working is in place at the birthing centre; this attracts a pay supplement.Whether working at the birthing centre or within the community, you will be fully supported by the senior maternity team. Applications are also welcomed from midwives currently working at Band 5 who have completed their Preceptorship, o As lead midwife at a local community clinic, you will work as part of a team to support women and babies before, during and after birth.o You will be on-call once or twice monthly for home births. A shift pattern including night and weekend working is in place at the birthing centre; this attracts a pay supplement.o To work according to the NMC Code and relevant professional guidelines as a midwife with facilitation for a defined group of women and their babies with minimal supervision in the Maternity Care setting.o The assessment of care and health education needs of women and their babieso To maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation programmes of care within the necessary frameworko To develop leadership skills and experience in the management of the ward/department.o To promote and participate in the implementation of the UCLH Nursing Midwifery strategy:o Reviewing midwifery practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice.o Developing and implementing Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.o To participate in training programmes as appropriate and to teach and act as a facilitator/preceptor to midwifery or non-midwifery staff.o To promote and maintain effective communication.o Create a supportive blame-free environment for staff and women
