University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSussex) is seeking a dynamic Breast Screening and Imaging Matron to lead and support our dedicated team in delivering exceptional care. The Matron in breast care will demonstrate clinical excellence, innovation, and leadership in the realm of breast care nursing. Through line management, and inclusive leadership of the cross-site teams of clinical nurse specialists, breast screening nurses, patient support workers and the Matron will lead the delivery of a patient-focused expert breast nursing service across the organisation and the whole breast screening patient pathway.
The Matron will have a key role in ensuring safe, seamless, co-ordinated, and evidence-based care for the patient group in collaboration with the MDT. They will ensure that the Trust and Breast Screening Services in Sussex comply with the NHS England Standards and Service Specification.
The post will involve cross-site working between Worthing and the Park Centre for Breast Care in Brighton., + The post holder will be a visible presence for patients, staff, clinicians across sites.
+ To support teams across all sites and provide the matron role by supporting CNS teams clinically by being a physical and advisory presence.
+ Early identification of risks by providing 121s, updated appraisals and HR management for teams.
+ Support clinicians by being an approachable ,credible subject expert to understand risks / challenges with service delivery and solution find.
+ Support governance and audit agenda to ensure safe responsive care.
+ Work with MDTs and external providers to improve outcomes with innovation and learning., ·The Screening and Imaging Matron will provide specialist support for women recalled to assessment and specialist nursing advice and education.
· Places quality at the heart of practice by supporting the delivery of autonomous evidence based individualised care, through holistic needs assessment, planning and evaluation of care.
· Acts as an expert practitioner demonstrating and utilising specialist knowledge, skills and expertise within breast care and across service boundaries as required.
·Assesses people's information needs and provides relevant information to meet those needs.
· Troubleshoots during the patient pathway to assist all clinical areas to constantly ensure patient safety, optimised care and a high-quality patient experience.
· Influences the patient care pathway, referring to other professionals and signposting to other agencies as appropriate.
·Ensures high levels of patient satisfaction. Promote patient experience feedback and ensure patient questionnaires are monitored and any required actions implemented.
· Ensures privacy and dignity of patients in the provision of nursing care and clinical practice of all staff.
· Leads on the Effective management of the helpline so that queries are actioned in a timely way.
· Works with PALS to ensure any complaints are managed proactively.
·Supports the Heath of breast screening and senior divisional management team in the management of incidents & complaints, leading on investigations as required.
· Ensures the written information provided is of an acceptable standard in line with Trust policies and is reviewed regularly.
·Promotes self-resilience and self-management after being recalled for further assessment and breast cancer diagnosis through education and support and nurse led end of treatment consultations.
· Works closely with clinical trials nurses to ensure the team promotes research and identify patients who may be eligible and benefit from current trials.
· Directs, supports, encourages and advises clinical teams by the provision of specialist knowledge and advice in the care of patients with breast cancer.
· Works with housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe environment.
·Ensures the provision of an adequate supply of appropriate dressings and pharmacy deliveries.
