Full Job Description
The British Library wishes to appoint one new non-executive member to its Audit and Risk Assurance Committee ('Audit Committee').
The Committee meetings around 5 times a year, mostly in person in London. We are particularly seeking someone with experience of accountancy within a public sector or publicly-funded body, with relevant accounting qualifications.
- Relevant experience from senior roles in the public or private sectors, with evidence of: - either expertise in finance and accounting, holding a CCAB qualification and membership with a good understanding of the Government's Financial Reporting Manual (FReM) and the Charities SORP.
- This role will include reviewing and editing the annual report and accounts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build effective team relationships with the Board and executive.
- Familiarity with current approaches to preparation of full annual report and accounts, risk management, internal control and corporate governance.
- Integrity, probity and high ethical standards, with a comprehensive understanding of the principles of governance and systems of control, and how to apply them appropriately
- Ability to pick out critical issues, to question intelligently, to challenge rigorously but constructively and to decide dispassionately while maintaining a sense of perspective.
- Independence of mind and sound judgement, together with the ability to provide impartial, objective and pragmatic advice.
- A commitment to the Seven Principles of Public Life ("Nolan Principles"), together with the willingness and availability to devote the necessary time to understand the business dynamics and context.
Remuneration will be £5,000 per annum (c.10-12 days per annum) along with reimbursement of travel and subsistence. This appointment is not pensionable, and any fees and expenses may be subject to tax and National Insurance. The post is for a 3 year term, whilst not automatic, you may be reappointed.
