A place of escape, bursting with wildflowers, olive and mulberry trees, grassy lawns and hidden nooks. An Art Deco gem created in 1938, The Roof Gardens has a legendary legacy. People have come together, the curious, creative, riotous, radical and respected alike. Every chapter scatters their seeds in the soil; we are merely the latest gardeners in its ongoing story. Created for season-by-season, morning-to-moonlight experiences. Al fresco Italian in the Walled Garden, vibrant, healthy twists on club classics in the Sun Pavilion, live performances and cosy cabanas in the Spanish Garden and late-night revelry in our den of decadence, the Biba Bar. The Building and Maintenance Engineer is a new role for The Roof Gardens growing team. This role will be responsible for reactive and preventative maintenance tasks, ensuring the clubs appearance remains impeccable. You will need to be able work with minimal supervision, be a problem solver. All Engineers will be expected to complete all general maintenance tasks not excluding manual handling. Maintenance and operations

  • To ensure the smooth running of The Roof Gardens site, achieving high operating standards consistent with the corporate values and objectives
  • Carry out all reactive repairs and maintenance across the club, including general repairs, in accordance with all legislative requirements
  • Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure the club's equipment and plant function optimally, in accordance with all legislative requirements
  • Plan, and prioritise maintenance tasks, including both reactive repairs and planned maintenance schedules.
  • Provide hands-on assistance in complex technical tasks
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure maintenance tasks do not interfere with daily operations
  • Collaborate with the Head of Facilities and the club's events and operations teams to ensure smooth coordination of maintenance work around high-profile functions.
  • Logging and reporting any maintenance issues
  • Manage and maintain tools, equipment, and inventory of materials
  • Escalating area's needing repair or attention and acting where necessary to make improvements
  • Responding to emergencies and escalating to Head of Facilities as necessary
  • Work with Head of Facilities identifying refurbishment and improvement works and ensuring they are carried out to a premium standard, competitively
  • Health and Safety & Hygiene
  • Adhere with H&S legislations and all policies, procedures, risk assessments.
  • Ensure that the member, guest, and staff experience is protected through effective ways of working and communication contributing to a unique, yet clean and safe environment e.g. ensure all areas are clear of potential hazards including those attributable to seasonal changes including gardens i.e. external footpaths.
  • 3rd Party Contracts and Procurement & Inventory Management
  • Work with Head of Facilities to coordinate external contractors, ensuring work is completed on time, and to the club's high standards, with work logged on Pronett
  • To ensure jobs are referred to external providers (providing written briefings or information) where appropriate and manage their effective resolution
  • Work with Head of Facilities to procure materials and parts, ensuring optimum stock levels to allow speedy on-site repairs and minimising downtime.
  • Compliance & Licensing
  • Ensure that all maintenance work complies with relevant safety regulations and best practices, especially for HVAC, fire alarm, and gas systems.
  • Perform regular inspections of all systems and facilities to identify potential issues and address them proactively.
  • Ensure you have an overview of The Roof Gardens Premises licence operating requirements and obligations relating to the following e.g. including noise management, traffic control, egress, and usage of the gardens.
  • Conduct audits and checks to maintain licence compliance and escalate any potential risks to the relevant stakeholder
  • Ensure full adherence to GDPR and any other Company policy and procedure.

    Proven experience in a similar Building Maintenance role in the luxury hospitality market is preferred.
  • A qualified discipline in Electrical / Gas / Mechanical Engineering / Plumbing Decorating / Carpentry is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience with HVAC systems, extraction systems, gas installations, and fire alarms.
  • Strong understanding of compliance, health and safety legislation regulations, and risk assessment processes.
  • A strong communicator with excellent spoken and written English and the ability to liaise effectively with engineers, contractors, and other departments.
  • An eye for detail, with the ability to look ahead and pre-empt issues or challenges
  • You will possess a friendly, characterful demeanour and take genuine pleasure in supporting your colleagues

  • Ability to work flexibly, including during events, weekends, or evenings as required.

    Salary above market rate plus tronc
