Location: Windsor, Berkshire

Salary: Competitive

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Hours of Work: 8am-5pm

To Start: January 2025 or sooner

Upton House is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Bursar to join our busy school office team.

A little bit about us

We are a small small independent school in Windsor. The school has been running since 1936. We value each and every member of our staff team and recognise that people can bring different ideas and suggestions all of which are equally valued. We view our team members as our extended family and most of our staff have worked with the school for many years.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall financial management of the school but the role will also oversee commercial, operational and strategic interests. This will include HR, facilities, grounds and catering as well as providing long-term strategic planning to ensure the continued financial health, success and longevity of the school.

As a critical member of the team the Bursar will report directly to the Headmistress. The Bursar is also responsible to the Chair of Governors in their role as Clerk to the Governors.

As part of the Upton Office Team, the successful candidate would also be required to help out with addition school tasks such as covering phones and reception as and when needed as well as school/staff events which could occur in evenings and at weekends.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate for this role would have:

· ACCA or CIMA Accountancy qualification essential

· Previous experience of working in a finance role, preferably as Bursar or business manager.

· People management experience

· Payroll experience

· Relationship building skills at all levels

· Ability to demonstrate commercial acumen and expert management of the day-to-day operations and non-academic functions of the school.

· Strong digital skills, specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook are essential for this role.

· Outstanding numeracy/literacy skills and attention to detail.

· The ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.

· Preferable, but not essential - knowledge of and experience of the education/Independent schools sector.

· Excellent communication skills

· Able to work as part of a team and use your own initiative

· Commitment to your role and being an inspiration

· Have a fun, can do attitude

· A willingness to meet challenges with enthusiasm and to contribute as a team member is essential
