An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development Manager to join Event Essex to raise external awareness of our commercial facilities at the University of Essex. Event Essex offers dynamic and innovative event spaces and convenient on-site accommodation in both Colchester and Southend. You will be joining an experienced team who knows how to deliver exceptional results and manages an exciting portfolio of events in a huge range of venues of up to 1000 in capacity. Over the past decade the department has consistently grown and improved its financial position, and the team is excited for a experienced Business Development Manager to join their team and keep the momentum going. Duties of the Role As an integral part of the commercial team the Business Development Manager will develop, lead and executive the targeted sales plan to drive new business across our commercial business units. The post holder will need to proactively identify opportunities and exploit gaps in the market by working closely with key Stakeholders to analyse and grow the sales pipelines. Growing trusted relationships will be a key focus of the role as effective relationship management across a variety of stakeholder will be crucial to supporting our mission.

Whilst we love experience, mindset is of equal importance. We're looking for someone who is committed with a natural ability to operate effectively in a fast moving, complex environment. Someone with the innate ability to establish and manage strong internal and external stakeholder relationships through strong influencing, analytical, negotiation, communication, and consensus-building skills.

  • Experience in an account management role with a portfolio of high growth opportunities basing decisions upon sound data and insight, linked to the long-term strategy of the organisation.
  • Experience of negotiating the needs of the company and the needs of the customer. Includes the ability to define, manage and execute mutually beneficial contracts.
  • An advanced ability to make effective commercial decisions based on an understanding and analysis of key commercial information and commercial levers.
  • Experience in initiating, developing, and managing mutually beneficial relationships with customers and on property stakeholder.
  • Experience of operating in culturally diverse teams and complex environment
  • Strategic sales experience in an account manager or business development role with a track record of identifying and delivering on new commercial opportunities, using key data points and analytics to make effective commercial decisions.
